BIGBANG currently consists of three members, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung, but it was originally a five member group that also included T.O.P and Seungri. Seungri retired from the entertainment industry in 2019 after the Burning Sun scandal, and T.O.P left the group in May 2023.

If things had gone differently, BIGBANG could have had one more member: actor Lee Soo Hyuk. Lee began his career as a model in 2006 and joined BIGBANG’s agency, YG Entertainment, in 2017. He continued his modeling and acting work there until he left the agency to join SARAM Entertainment in 2025.

Lee and G-Dragon recently appeared in episode 94 of Daesung’s YouTube show ZIP DAESUNG. At one point, while chatting, Lee shared a funny story about G-Dragon’s pre-debut days. Back then, no one knew that BIGBANG would become one of the biggest groups in K-Pop history.

Back in high school, [G-Dragon] called me. ‘In your neighbourhood, are there any kids who are good at dancing and singing?’ He was trying to recruit members for BIGBANG at the time. When he was a trainee, at first it was just him and Taeyang.

When G-Dragon asked Lee if he knew of anyone who could join BIGBANG’s lineup, Lee jokingly volunteered — and G-Dragon rejected him.

But he called me, when he was looking for members. I never imagined it would become this. Ah, back then I even joked, ‘Me!’ That’s what I said.

G-Dragon said he doesn’t remember his response, but Lee certainly does. “And do you know what he said?” the actor told Daesung, “He said I couldn’t because I was too tall.” According to his SARAM Entertainment profile, Lee is 6’1″ tall.

“That sounds right. That’s probably it,” G-Dragon replied. He playfully added, “You’d be a better fit for TVXQ.

The rest is history!
