Leg hair tests may be more accurate.

On November 15, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency announced that Lee Sun Kyun took a leg hair test.

During the first investigation of Lee Sun Kyun last month, we obtained hair and leg hair along with a request for a detailed examination to the National Forensic Service (NFS), but we received an ‘untestable’ notice for Lee Sun Kyun’s leg hair.

Previously, Lee Sun Kyun received negative results in both the drug urine test and detailed hair examination. Leg hair, which is less affected by factors like dyeing and bleaching than head hair, was considered crucial evidence for determining his alleged drug use. However, even this evidence faced an “untestable” verdict, causing more confusion in the investigation and to the public.

Lawyer An Ji Sung commented on this case, saying that it is usually difficult to get an “untestable” verdict in drug tests on leg hair and predicted that there must have been a mistake sometime during the test.

It’s very difficult for an ‘untestable’ verdict to come out, unless the leg hair is too thin or too little is collected. I believe the police conducted the collection process meticulously, but there seemed to have been a problem during the collection process.

There have been cases in the past where leg hair accurately detected drug use when head hair did not. In 2019, singer Park Yoochun, who was accused of drug use, received negative results in urine and hair tests but tested positive in the leg hair test. Therefore, even though Lee Sun Kyun’s other tests didn’t detect drugs, many were waiting for his leg hair test results. The police are reportedly considering summoning Lee Sun Kyun again to collect more samples.

On November 10, G-Dragon, who is also accused of using drugs, was reported to have removed all body hair when he was tested for drugs. This led police to believe that the star had deliberately destroyed evidence because of previous cases where guilty celebrities removed their body hair prior to their drug test. G-Dragon also received a negative result in his drug urine test.

As consecutive negative results in drug tests emerge, the focus is now on how the police will conclude this drug investigation.
