On December 29, the 2023 SBS Drama Awards was held at the SBS Prism Tower in Seoul. The event was scheduled to close with a celebratory performance by Hwasa.

However, before her performance, the event’s host, Shin Dong Youp, announced that Hwasa had worked hard to prepare a grand stage for the show but had to make last-minute changes due to the recent “heartbreaking incident.”

Though Lee Sun Kyun’s name was not mentioned directly, it was implied that the performance was in his memory. Since the actor’s demise on December 27, the entertainment industry has mourned his loss in different ways. While artists commemorated him through social media posts, the industry rescheduled several events.

While the SBS Drama Awards could not be postponed, the event paid respects through Hwasa’s performance. Originally, she was supposed to perform her recent hits, “I Love My Body” and “Chilli”. Instead, the singer came out on stage in a long black dress and performed “LMM,” a soulful ballad from her 2020 solo album Maria. Her solemn rendition, though different than her trademark glamorous stages, left audiences touched.
