In 2023, Netflix released the docu-series In The Name Of God: A Holy Betrayal, which horrified viewers with the terrible acts committed by Korean church cult leaders.

Of the cult leaders covered, the one that seemed to receive the most attention due to the ongoing investigation was Jung Myung Seok (also known as Jeong Myeong Seok or simply JMS), leader of the JMS Church (now known as Providence or Christian Gospel Mission). The church’s leader was convicted of the rape of three women and sentenced to ten years in prison in 2008.

The cult routinely lured in young women, including foreign ones, sometimes including previous victims in victimizing new ones. After his release in 2012, JMS resumed assaulting women, but testimony from victims, including Maple Yip, helped to land him behind bars again.

Now, two years after the series, Maple Yip has shared that a book detailing her whole experience, including her recruitment, will be released. The autobiography, Traces, will also warn of how close cults are to individuals and share new details previously not mentioned.

Following the series release, Yip’s marriage to former idol and Olympian Alex Fong was revealed, and she is now pregnant with their child.
