MBC Addresses The Heated Backlash Against Its Upcoming K-Drama “To The Moon”
MBC has addressed the backlash over the teaser video of its upcoming K-Drama, To The Moon.

The controversy erupted on August 20, KST, when MBC posted the teaser, and viewers were immediately apalled by the racist caricature of Arab and Indian cultures in the video.

On the morning of August 21, KST, MBC addressed the backlash by issuing an official apology through media outlets. The network explained that the teaser was intended to be a parody of a popular commercial from the 80s, but admitted their shortcoming in considering its racist undertones.
The drama’s storyline is set against the backdrop of a confectionery company, and the teaser was created as a parody of a famous ice cream commercial from the 1980s and 1990s. We failed to consider the perspectives of other cultures during this process.

The network apologized for its insensitivity and has since removed the teaser from all platforms. “We will be more careful and considerate in the future to avoid causing discomfort.”
