McDonald’s Reports That BTS Helped Increase Their Worldwide Sales By 41%
Today, July 28, McDonald’s officially revealed its financial performance for the second quarter of 2021 (from April to June). When this was compared to the same quarter, but of 2020, the chain’s net sales were discovered to have risen by an impressive 57 percent ($5.9 billion USD).
McDonald’s also reported that its global sales rose by 40.5 percent compared to 2020. Even when compared to the second quarter of 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and sales plunged, global sales still saw an increase of 6.9 percent. In the United States specifically, sales rose by 25.9 percent compared to last year and 14.9 percent compared to 2019.
While many factors contribute to the boosting of earnings, analysts agree that the BTS Meal—a limited-edition meal designed according to BTS’s preferences—played a large role in the increase. The meal included several of McDonald’s staple foods (Chicken McNuggets, french fries, and Coke) as well as new and unique dipping sauces (Cajun and Sweet Chili).
The BTS Meal drove visits to our restaurants and produced significant lifts in Chicken McNuggets sales—one of our core menu items.

McDonald’s Korea previously shared that in the first four weeks of the BTS Meal’s launch, Chicken McNuggets sales jumped 250 percent compared to the previous four weeks. Chains in the Philippines even had to shut down temporarily due to the demand.
McDonald’s Celebrity Meals have certainly proved themselves a worthy campaign.
