K-Pop Idol Says He Got Cursed Out By His Own Mother For Marrying Superstar Wife

When former M.I.B member Kangnam announced that he would be getting married to the two-time Olympic gold medalist Lee Sang Hwa, fans were flabbergasted, to say the least. Not only had the wedding news come five days after their dating news broke in October 2019, but also because the two had just met for the first time on SBS‘s Law of the Jungle in September 2019.

And in their latest appearance together in an episode of Zzanbro, Kangnam revealed that even his mother was mind-blown by the fact that he would tie the knot with a national speed skating champion.

Kangnam said that when he first told his mother about his wedding plans, she was firmly against it…

My mom, Ms. Kwon Myung Sook, strongly objected. She said, ‘I don’t think this marriage is right.’ When she heard ‘Lee Sang Hwa,’ she was like, ‘Wait, the Lee Sang Hwa? As in the Olympic gold medalist?’

…for the sake of Lee Sang Hwa.

She literally told me, ‘A guy like you can’t be the one to marry her.’ And she was saying that out of concern for Sang Hwa. She thought I would cause too much damage to her career. And I even agreed, like, maybe  she’s right.’

It was only after Lee Sang Hwa sat down with Kangnam’s mother that she was convinced about the whole idea.

Lee Sang Hwa: I thought marrying the one I love was the right decision. So I persuaded her more. And then she finally opened up to the idea. She said, ‘Then let’s arrange a family meeting and set a wedding plan.’

Kangnam: Wait, but can I be totally honest? At that time, my mom came to me and said, ‘You little sh*t, who do you think you are marrying a national athlete?! She worked so hard to get where she is, so don’t hurt her.’ That’s what she said. She told me, ‘You go on and be an entertainer or whatever, but don’t you dare cause any trouble for her.’ That’s how she put it.

After getting married, though, the TV star couple showed off their unbreakable chemistry on different programs and through YouTube—proving they were 100% fated!
