MONSTA X’s I.M Reveals How He Was Able To Sneak An Explicit Lyric Into One Of Their Title Tracks

It’s a creative cover-up, that’s for sure.

In a recent interview with music journalist Jeff Benjamin for TIDAL, MONSTA X‘s I.M opened up about how he was able to bend the rules a little bit in order to get an explicit phrase into their most recent album One of a Kind.

When Jeff asked the group to share about what their favorite lyrics were out of all of the songs, I.M replied that he really liked the line “Hot as °F” from “GAMBLER” – the title track.

Although the intended ‘F’ word is pretty obvious to most, I.M explained how adding that tiny degree symbol is what allowed it to fly with the record company.

If it’s not TMI, the label actually didn’t want that line because it sounds a little bit inappropriate, but then I fixed the ‘F’ by replacing it with the temperature Fahrenheit.

We have to admit, that’s quite a creative solution! And this isn’t the first time I.M was responsible for a cover-up. While promoting their first English album All About Luv, the band was asked about the meaning behind the song “Middle of the Night” during an interview with B96 Chicago.

The lines of that song in particular are also pretty suggestive, including references to “sleeping in the Motel 6” and “making sure your friends don’t know,” but I.M was prepared with a broadcast-friendly answer.

It can be something very personal, very emotional, it depends on that person. If you see the lyrics, it’s about someone who you miss – your ex.

As the band prepares for their second English album in the coming months, it will be interesting to see what lyrics they come up with next!
