The 2022 MBC Gayo Daejejeon included performances by artists from each generation of K-Pop, but the majority were from the third and fourth generations.

While the iconic collaborations and heartwarming interactions between groups were exciting for netizens to see, fans quickly took notice of disrespectful actions towards MONSTA X and ASTRO‘s Moonbin and Sanha as the ceremony was coming to a close.

Towards the end of the show, multiple groups gathered on stage for a collaborative performance.

As they got ready to ring in the new year, fans spotted a member of MBC‘s staff redirecting MONSTA X from their position at the front of the stage to a dark corner, which ended up being out of the camera’s frame.

Reviewing fan-taken videos, netizens noticed MONSTA X politely complying with the staff’s directions but appearing frustrated as they settled into their new spot. As the group had more seniority than many of the groups in attendance, fans called out MBC for their decision to move them from the front.

ASTRO’s Moonbin and Sanha, also 3rd-gen idols, were spotted standing with MONSTA X in the undesirable spot as well. The decision to move the groups caused outrage as fans quickly trended #RespectMonstaX and #RespectASTRO on Twitter, calling attention to the incident.

Anger grew as netizens realized that MONSTA X and ASTRO’s Moonbin and Sanha were later missing from the 2022 MBC Gayo Daejejeon group photos.

Fans are calling for an acknowledgment of the incident and an apology from MBC, expressing that moving any group to that corner would be disrespectful, but especially took issue as ASTRO and MONSTA X were two of the more senior groups.

As of now, MBC has not released a statement regarding the incident.

MONSTA X and ASTRO weren’t the only idol groups that were on the receiving end of perceived mistreatment. Netizens noticed stark differences in Stray Kids‘ Felix and Lee Know‘s individual fancams from the 2022 MBC Gayo Daejejeon.
