Nicole talks about her fears and burden of promoting solo
In a recent interview with Japanese media Oricon Style, former KARA member Nicole spoke on the burden of promoting solo compared to being in a group.
The interview was published on June 17th in anticipation to Nicole’s first solo single in Japan, Something Special, to be released on the 24th.
When asked how she felt about taking on the stage by herself, she replied, “I’m filled with anticipation and joy. Honestly, I was really anxious to take the stage last April during ‘KCON 2015 Japan’ for my solo. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in Japan, I worry that I’ve been forgotten.”
Prior to making her debut in Japan, Nicole made her solo debut in Korea first with her mini-album First Romance in November 2014, promoting the title track “MAMA.”
She continues, “When I was first performing as a soloist, I gained courage hearing my name. I was always worried that the stage may look empty when I got up on stage as a solo artist. I was always a part of a group so it was hard for me to sing and dance alone. As it’s been a while since I was last active I’m seeing alot of hoobaes. I debuted when I was 17 so I was always the maknae, but that’s not the case anymore. This is why I’m feeling more responsibility and feeling like an adult. I want to be a figure that my fans can be proud of admitting they are a ‘Nicole’s fan.’ I’m going to work hard to make that possible. My goal in Japan is to hit #1 on Oricon.”
Last month, Nicole held a fan meeting in Japan, attracting over 1,400 fans.
