The Academy Awards chose 15 international films in the running for the award show’s International Feature Film Award category and Park Chan Wook’s much-acclaimed Decision To Leave was one of them.

The award show will further shorten the list of nominated films to five and officially present their nominations before the Award Show.

If nominated, Decision To Leave will be the third Korean film to gain the honor, following director Lee Chang Dong‘s Burning, and Bong Joon Ho‘s Parasite. Parasite would go on to win the category and the award for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Decision To Leave, starring actors Park Hae Il and Tang Wei, tells the story of a detective who becomes obsessed with a murder suspect, with whom he engages in an all-consuming affair. Park Chan Wook demonstrates a masterclass in storytelling and cinematography, carefully weaving in nuance and symbolism without pretension.
