It was revealed that the police conducted a search and seizure at the offices of singer PSY‘s agency on suspicion that PSY had his manager and others receive psychotropic drugs on his behalf.
According to Yonhap News on the 11th, the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul conducted the search of PSY’s agency P Nation’s office and vehicles on the 4th, securing materials to prove PSY’s charges.
P Nation stated, “We cooperated actively with the authorities’ request and will take necessary measures according to legal procedures going forward.”
PSY is suspected of receiving prescriptions for psychotropic drugs Xanax and Stilnox from a university hospital in Seoul since 2022 without in-person consultations and having his manager and other third parties pick up the medication on his behalf.
Xanax and Stilnox are psychotropic drugs used to treat sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, and depression. Due to their high potential for dependence and addiction, prescriptions and consultations are generally required to be in-person.
The police have also booked a professor from the university hospital who prescribed the drugs with PSY as a suspect.
PSY’s side stated, “He was diagnosed with chronic sleep disorder and has been taking sleeping pills prescribed by medical professionals,” adding, “There was no proxy prescription.”
