Popular American Singer Hit With Backlash After Weighing In On NJZ’s (NewJeans) Lawsuit Ruling
On October 30 KST, Seoul Central District Court judge Jeong Hoe Il shared the court’s ruling on ADOR’s lawsuit against the five NJZ (NewJeans) members to confirm the validity of the agency’s contract with the members.
In November 2024, NJZ announced their intention to terminate their contract with ADOR, citing that the trust between the group and the agency had been broken. What followed was the group declaring themselves as free and changing their name.
Many viewed the legal battle as the group attempting to reclaim control of their careers against what they deemed unfair conditions.
NewJeans Calls Out New ADOR Management And Demands Restoration Of Min Hee Jin’s System
While opinions vary, a popular American artist with her own experience in dealing with a lawsuit against someone with control over her career has spoken out about the situation.
In 2014, American musician Kesha (also known as Ke$ha) officially sued producer Dr. Luke (Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald) to break her contract, claiming the producer had repeatedly drugged her, had sexual contact with her, with and without her consent and controlled her music career to her detriment.
Kesha’s abuse claims were dismissed in 2016, partially due to falling outside the statute of limitations, keeping her held within her contract. Ultimately, the legal battle ended in 2023, with a settlement being reach, despite Dr. Luke continuing to deny the abuse claims.
Many famous stars in the industry, including Adele and Taylor Swift showed support for Kesha after she was deemed to have breached her contract.

After the NJZ ruling was shared, Kesha made a tweet saying that her heart was with NJZ, showing her support.

This tweet was met with backlash, as those in favor of the ruling, including many critical of Min Hee Jin, commented their thoughts.
