Popular Idol “Calorie Counting” Groupmate’s Food Sparks Heated Criticism, Debate

The topics of weight and appearance are often sensitive to those even outside of the spotlight. For those in it, especially idols, beauty standards can be extremely harsh, resulting in sometimes dangerous attempts to try to fit them.
A recent viral clip of ATEEZ‘s Wooyoung has sparked debate online on the topic of dieting.

Wooyoung and Yeosang recently did a livestream, during which Wooyoung noticed that Yeosang was drinking a banana milk.
As Yeosang handed the drink to him, Wooyoung questioned the amount of calories in the item and surprising Yeosang with the total.
Wooyoung commented on the number of the drinks that Yeosang had while comparing it to the caloric content of rice. Yeosang assured that it was okay due to him having performed that day, which Wooyoung seemed to agree with.
The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter), where netizens shared their thoughts on Wooyoung’s actions.
Some outright criticized the idol for “policing” his groupmate, making harsh accusations against him.

On the other hand, while admitting that the video may have been posted with the intent of sparking hate, many thought that Wooyoung’s actions were connected to the harsh standards of K-Pop.

fans missing the point lol "it's inciting hate towards wooyoung 😢" people with normal brains don't think this way…wooyoung has a VISIBLE dogshit relationship with food, he's a victim too lol but it's also not fair of him to project those problems onto yeosang https://t.co/hzbq98SZtS
