Popular Influencer Confesses She Had A Child With A Minor, Sparks Massive Reactions
Popular influencer Hong Young Gi, who started off her career as a popular “ulzzang” back in the 2010s, has sparked some heated reactions after discussing her pre-marital pregnancy on a YouTube show recently.

Hong recently appeared in the latest episode of the popular YouTube show, Pajama Party, where she talked about the challenges she faced as an unmarried mother in her early 20s. Talking about her first reaction to the pregnancy, she recalled, “I just thought I was screwed, really.”

When asked why she had that reaction, Hong responded, “Because my husband was a high school student!” She herself was also at the rising curve of her career, and hence, found it burdensome to suddenly accept motherhood.

Hong also admitted that both her mother and mother-in-law were not happy when they initially heard the news. “My mother-in-law was devastated,” she confessed, adding that she tried to persuade Hong to terminate the pregnancy. But Hong was strong-willed to give birth, since she believed she had to honor the value of this new life growing inside her. “I didn’t have a choice in the matter. I just had to have the baby,” she recounted.

However, Hong’s husband, despite his young age, took the news very well. “My husband was just happy! I even asked him recently, ‘Honestly, how did you feel back then?’ [He said] ‘I was happy.’”

Hong Young Gi got pregnant in 2012, at the age of 20, when her husband was a 17-year-old high schooler. Though this information was well-known among their older fans, her bringing it up again on the YouTube show has triggered some intense reactions from netizens. While some felt that she should be careful about mentioning these details about her life as a mother now, others were left wondering if people would be calling it problematic if the gender roles were reversed.

- “If the genders were reversed, people would’ve gone crazy.”
- “Huh? This seems like something the kid might get teased for in the future. Did she really have to bring up such a sensitive topic?”
- “Huh? Really? Whoa.”
- “Oh…there’s quite an age gap. I thought they were only a year apart.”
- “Even if some people already know, for the child’s sake, it might’ve been better not to bring it up.”
