Popular Netflix K-Drama Sparks Huge Controversy After Viewers Catch “Absurd” Production Mistake
Netflix’s latest historical K-Drama Bon Appétit Your Majesty has proven to be a massive hit, even with just two episodes out. However, the show has also gained attention for a production error that many are calling “absurd.”
The mishap has instantly gone viral.

The controversy centers around a scene where a key banner in the show, meant to read Tae Pyeong Seong Dae (太平聖代), was incorrectly displayed.

The last character, which should be “대신할 대” (代, to mean an era or period in the banner) was mistakenly shown as “큰 대” (大, to mean large). Viewers quickly noticed, with many taking to social media to voice their disbelief.
Hey, you said you were making a historical drama, but the production team and director are illiterate and can’t even write ‘tae pyeong seong dae’ in Hanja correctly.

The error has since gone viral on Korean forums like theqoo, where viewers are not holding back in their criticism and slamming the show’s production team.

- “It feels like a lie that no one noticed this… If they caught it while editing, they could’ve at least CGI-ed it. Seriously, are we supposed to believe that no one realized it was wrong?”
- “Even just pressing the Hanja conversion in Hangul would have given them the right version.”
- “You can just look it up on Naver, it’s really absurd.”
- “I went to Seoul Cyber University and my ‘Taepyeongseongdae’ began*.” (Meme)
- “I’m losing it, this is so pathetic… If you don’t even know this basic stuff, just don’t use Hanja at all…”
Whether the show’s creators will address the issue remains to be seen, but for now, the slip-up is all Korean viewers are talking about.
