President-Elect Yoon Seok Yeol’s Transition Committee To Meet With HYBE To Discuss BTS’s Military Exemption

The president-elect is sending his team to HYBE.

The committee has since clarified that they will be meeting HYBE, but will not discuss BTS’s military exemption.

Ahn Cheol Soo, part of President-Elect Yoon Seok Yeol’s transition committee, will visit HYBE to discuss a range of issues, including a potential military exemption for BTS.

According to an exclusive report from Munhwa Ilbo, Ahn Cheol Soo, chairman of President-Elect Yoon Seok Yeol’s transition committee, will visit HYBE in person on April 2 to discuss ways to foster and grow the entertainment industry. Ahn Chul Soo has previously shared his praise for BTS and has been a supporter of their military exemption.

BTS is well-qualifed for alternative military service.

— Ahn Cheol Soo

President-Elect Yoon Seok Yeol’s transition committee is focusing on preparing alternative methods of military service for those who are recognized for promoting national prestige. These alternatives would range from volunteer work to service in the arts and sports industry instead of military service. Ahn Cheol Soo will discuss this with HYBE officials during his meeting, as the committee has determined that BTS’s upcoming military service is a key issue at the present.

[The issues] we will discuss with HYBE are based on our internal discussions relating to BTS’s military service.

We plan to review BTS’s global achievements in terms of their strategy in the industry, listen to the difficulties that they have in the industry, and discuss what policies can be put into place to support the industry.
