“I need to pay and buy a blue check???”

Rapper and TV personality Lee Young Ji recently tweeted in annoyance after the verified blue check on her Twitter account disappeared.

With over 862,000 Twitter followers, Lee Young Ji used to have a blue check until it disappeared one day. On April 20, Twitter started Twitter Blue, a paid subscription that allows users, even non-celebrities, to purchase a verified blue checkmark. Therefore, all existing blue checks disappeared for Twitter users—even BTS.

On June 5, Lee Young Ji took to Twitter to complain about her missing blue checkmark.

I mean, I know that my account looks like an impersonation account, but it’s an official account—you can’t just take away the blue check. You shouldn’t have given it to me from the beginning; how can you give then take away?

You should take it away after a ‘Are you a robot?’ test or a ‘Choose the pictures with a traffic light’ test or something.

When her followers informed her that she had to pay monthly for a check mark, she tweeted again—this time, asking Twitter CEO Elon Musk a question.

To prove that I’m a public figure, I need to pay and buy a blue check???
This is fun

@elonmusk so where do I pay? Can I choose the color, too?

The following day, Lee Young Ji updated her followers with her status on the blue check.

So I bought it like I was told to do, but why am I so annoyed?

I paid but the benefits are only displaying tweet texts in bold or italic form; why does that make me angry?

I gave them my money immediately and paid for it; from not giving it to me as soon as I bought it and having to wait for approval to giving and taking from me and then sending me a notification saying it looks good on me…

Lastly, on June 6, Lee Young Ji posted a simple tweet hinting at how she feels toward Elon Musk after this incident.

I unfollowed Elon Musk

Her fans laughed and commented about how cute Lee Young Ji was. Others suggested she invite Elon Musk to her YouTube talk show, My Alcohol Diary.

  • “Please recruit Elon Musk to go on ‘My Alcohol Diary’ 😂😂”
  • “Kehekehehekehekekekehe”
  • “Follow him again lol”
  • “It’s because Twitter has no money… Please help them with $8…”

Lee Young Ji is usually hilarious and full of jokes, so fans knew she wasn’t being 100% serious with these tweets.
