Popular Third-Gen Girl Group Member Confesses To Having Vocal Disorder

She shared how she overcame it.

On June 3, Red Velvet’s Seulgi appeared on Lee Mujin’s YouTube series, Limousine Service.

For the show, she prepared a piano arrangement version of the unit group Irene & Seulgi’s new title track, “TILT,” and showed off her unique charm.

She also sang snippets of a variety of different genres of songs and proved her status as an “all-rounder” artist.

Seulgi, known to be a long-term trainee at SM, trained for about seven years.

I didn’t get the call right after the audition, but got a call a year later. I thought, ‘Did I lack confidence?’ so I went to acting school and thought about trying again.

She also surprised everyone by confessing that she suffered from a vocal disorder.

“When I was young, my voice was lovely and thin. But when my teacher changed and I had no lessons for a while, I started liking pop singers like Whitney Houston and Beyoncé, who had fuller and deeper voices.

But while trying to imitate them, she started to make the wrong sound while trying to sound like them. She then revealed how she was able to overcome this disability.

“I developed a vocal disorder because of that. I couldn’t even sing a single word properly. My voice shook when I greeted people.

I had no choice but to fix this, so I checked how my voice shook and continued to study on my own on where the sound should be placed.”

Meanwhile, the unit group Irene & Seulgi will kick off their Asia tour with a concert in Seoul on June 14-15.
