On January 10, the 83rd Golden Globes took place, honoring the best of film and television in a ceremony in the United States. BLACKPINK’s Lisa was announced to attend the show and present an award, the first K-Pop idol to do so ever, while SEVENTEEN‘s Joshua became the first male idol to be invited to attend.

The idol was interviewed by different media organizations, including Billboard where he was asked about his feelings attending the show. Joshua was also asked if he had seen any of the year’s musicals, to which he responded that he saw KPop Demon Hunters and that he felt like it opened up new doors for K-Pop.

Interviewer: How do you feel about KPop Demon Hunters because, obviously K-Pop, we know, has been such a big thing for so long, but this movie has changed the trajectory completely.
Joshua: Yes, KPop Demon Hunters, I’m really happy, and it’s opening up new doors for K-Pop, so I can’t believe it got this big.

A link to the interview was posted with the title on X, and has since been deleted from the platform, with the video now private on YouTube, but it was met with harsh reactions. Many felt that his comments disregarded the contributions that BTS made to the spread of K-Pop, accusing him of “disrespect.”

Many came to Joshua’s defense however, stating that he mentioned the film opened new doors with its widespread popularity.
