“Single’s Inferno 5” Star Choi Mina Sue’s Controversial Past Resurfaces, Sparks Scathing Backlash
Single’s Inferno 5 contestant Choi Mina Sue is receiving renewed backlash over a resurfaced clip.
Recently, the Korean OTT platform Wavve shared a clip from the 2022 Channel A reality show Penthouse: War of Tenants, in which Choi was a contestant. The clip showed a controversial moment from the show in which she was seen recklessly spending money on a single meal.
In the footage, Choi is seen refusing all the meals provided to the contestants, claiming none of them matched her taste. She then proceeded to order a luxurious bibimbap worth ₩5.00 million KRW (about $3,400 USD). The problem? — The money was taken from the shared prize fund, where all contestants had a stake.
Penthouse: War of Tenants followed a format where the final winner took home whatever of the prize money remained after contestants used it for various purposes throughout the show. So, all the contestants reportedly agreed to restrict their spending because there was no certainty about who might be the ultimate winner. However, Choi went against their collective decision and spent a large chunk on her meal, ultimately slashing a significant portion of the final prize amount. This incident reportedly caused quite a bit of tension among participants.
Choi explained her actions during an interview, claiming that she did it to grow closer to fellow contestant Lim Hyun Seo. She reasoned that sharing a secret with someone was the easiest way to get closer to them, adding that she had privately told Lim that she had ordered the expensive bibimbap while refusing to eat the provided meal.
During the show, another of Choi’s fellow contestants, Seo Chul Gu, candidly expressed his dislike of her, calling dealing with her “stressful.”
