The 33-year-old, who is the captain of the Tottenham Hotspur team, arrived in Korea with his team on August 1. They are slated to play against Newcastle United at the 2025 Coupang Play Series Match 2 on August 3, KST. The match is part of the Premier League’s summer pre-season Asia tour.

On August 2, Son attended a pre-match press conference with Tottenham coach Thomas Frank, and addressed the reporters, announcing that he would be departing from the club this summer.

It was the most difficult decision I have made in my career. Such amazing memories. It was so hard to make the decision. I need a new environment to push myself.

— Son Heung Min

Recalling his early days in the club, Son reminisced, “I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old…I leave this club as a grown man, a very proud man.”
