Legendary Singer Personally Addresses Recent “Golden” Live Perfomance Controversy
Recently, singer Sohyang personally addressed the controversy surrounding her performance on KBS’s 2025 Countdown Show Right Now, on December 31.
On December 31, she appeared at the New Year’s countdown event and performed a cover of “Golden” by Huntrix, along with Youngbin and HYNN.

From the beginning, her first notes were off-key and unstable. Her voice trembled from the introduction, which began with Youngbin, and Sohyang’s distinctive tone was heard more than the harmony.
Viewers watching the performance described it as “dissonant,” but as the song progressed, she eventually found her stability, and by the end, her signature singing skills were restored.

After the performance video was uploaded to the KBS YouTube channel, it was bombarded with criticism.

- “This is going to be a performance she will want to forget for the rest of her life.”
- “I hope she becomes more humble after this performance.”
- “This is a song that doesn’t need all those crazy vocal skills. It needs to be sung more simply.”
- “Every time she sang the harmony, it just ruined the song.”
- “This is the first time feeling so horrible after hearing ‘Golden.’”
- “Totally ruined…someone needs to tell her.”
- “This is the first time I felt like something was ‘too much’ while listening to music.”
Sohyang, who saw the reactions, personally commented, stating, “That’s right. I messed everything up. I’m so disappointed, too.”
On January 4, a more detailed statement regarding the controversy was posted on her YouTube channel.
“‘Golden’…I did so badly. Ah, this voice belongs to God. If I use it for my own greed, I will inevitably be incompetent.
This was an opportunity for me to resolve once again to serve as the Lord’s instrument humbly.”

She also asked fans to pray for her and mentioned the biblical story of Jacob, stating, “God loves Jacob, but He also trains and transforms him into a man of the Lord. Please look forward to my future journey.”
