The man, identified as Mr. Yong, had attempted to extort ₩70.0 million KRW (about $50,000 USD) from Son Heung Min, who refused. Upon so, he sent an email to several journalists on April 25, 2025, stating he had evidence and multiple materials to back up his claims.

Mr. Yong is known to be an acquaintance of Ms. Yang, who claimed to be pregnant with Son Heung Min’s child and received ₩300 million KRW (about $214,000 USD). Previously, it was claimed by several Korean outlets that Mr. Yong was Ms. Yang’s new boyfriend. The police also confirmed that Ms. Yang had indeed been diagnosed as pregnant, but were unable to verify if the child was Son Heung Min’s.
