Recently, it was announced that Annie had graduated from the Ivy League Columbia University.

While many fans praised Annie for continuing her education, there was a majority of netizens who hit back at the idol, with accusations of making the group go on a break and hitting back at her chaebol status.

Yet a heated debate was sparked shortly after it was revealed that Jeno had also graduated. In particular, it focused on the difference in reactions to Annie and Jeno’s graduation.

One OP noticed that while Annie’s quotes were full of hate, Jeno’s achievement was praised, and thought it showcased the double standards in K-Pop when it comes to male and female idols.

While the issue of difference in treatment has been a hot and debated topic, many thought the OP’s point didn’t stand. Along with saying that the praise for Jeno came from NCT fans, they added that the negative discourse towards Annie isn’t that she is a female idol, but her chaebol status.
