“These Ingrates”: THE BOYZ Face Harsh Criticism From Own Fandom For Questionable Fansign Behavior

“They love the idea of their fans, but they hate spending one-on-one time with them.”

Korean fans of THE BOYZ have had enough, so it seems. Several tweets about the idol group have since gone viral on X (former Twitter), all calling out THE BOYZ members for their “ungrateful” behavior toward the fandom during fansign events.

User @zecxxxz‘s most viral tweets—now with over 6.8M views—were one of the first to unveil the issue at hand:

THE BOYZ’s “Can’t Hold It In” Incident: During a fansign event, THE BOYZ kept fidgeting and getting up, saying they needed to go to the bathroom—like restless dogs that can’t find a good spot to poop—all because they didn’t want to spend time with the fangirls.

— @zecxxxz/X

Going to the bathroom? Sure, THE BOYZ members are human, too. So, of course they can. But during a fansign event where each fan only gets one minute to talk? As soon as we got to Fan #50, they started getting up one by one and walking out of the venue until half of them were gone. Then they came back about five minutes later. It’s always the same members who leave—like YounghoonHyunjae, etc. In fact, Hyunjae left the event the fastest, too. These ingrates… I hope they reflect on what they did.

Then, a tweet from user @cdisodkjchdhxh shared pictures from the fansign venue…

…where only a few of the 11 members of the group were seated, interacting with the fans attending the event.

Another user, @1ovnue, shared a video—also showing the members’ seats left empty while the event was still ongoing. @1ovnue wrote, “At first, I thought all fansign events go like this.”

When the tweets went viral, harsh criticism from long-time THE BOYZ fans (who claimed to have witnessed such behavior repeat over and over again) came pouring out.

I actually thought the fansign was over.

— @juyeonppang/X

These fans alleged THE BOYZ members of mistreating and, ultimately, not “valuing” the fans who show them support by showing up to the events. Some of the most disapproving tweets got thousands of Likes as it openly attacked THE BOYZ members in the name of love.

You know what’s the scariest thing? When all the big name fan accounts start posting REALLY long tweets that come with a “Show More.”

— @mongsunims/X

I hope THE BOYZ remember that THE Bs are calling them out not because we dislike the members, but because we want to see more of them on stage. There are fans writing these messages with tears in their eyes, hoping for better communication. Nothing lasts forever, but creating something lasting is only possible when both sides work together.

— @dallia0826/X

As Korean THE Bs became more and more emotional over the tweets, the complaints became more generalized—accusing THE BOYZ members for “hating their own fans.”

It seems like THE BOYZ loves the idea of THE Bs, but when it comes to spending time with each fan, they hate it.

— @ghjauu/X

I’ve always felt this way, but THE BOYZ only seem to need THE Bs when it benefits them—during voting, winning awards, getting endorsement deals, and making comebacks. Outside of that, it feels like they don’t acknowledge us at all… It makes me feel like I’m nothing. I’ve never seen an idol group exploit their fans like this before. I’m not just someone you can summon whenever you need support and expect to always be there to comfort you.

— @xxgangoz/X

If you’ve ever been to THE BOYZ’s fansign, you’ll 50,000,000% understand this. They always say they’re busy, but listen. I also paid for the ticket and made time to attend. Yet, within that one hour, I blink once and someone’s gone to the bathroom. These bathroom breaks are long and the members only come back after a good while. What, they can’t even hold it in for an hour? Every fansign, this happens. The only way I’d excuse it is if they had explosive diarrhea and could not sit through the whole event no matter what.

— @hj_716/X

I’ve felt this way more and more over time… They tell us they love us so much, but their actions don’t reflect that, and it’s really disappointing. There must be a reason why so many fans are saying the same things all at once. They’ve been around for 7 years now, so they should be in a position to voice concerns with the company, but it feels like they’re just not doing it. All fans want is communication and to see them more often, but it’s frustrating when they don’t even want to do that. Yet they want their fans to stick through it all? As opportunities to see them dwindle, who will stay and keep supporting? Words are nice, but it’d be great if their actions matched. 🥹

— @swyouthis/X

THE BOYZ reduced their fan video call duration from 3 minutes to 2 minutes on the day of the video calls, decreased the number of participants to 10, and even for the Polaroids, it is now all at random. Why have they become so b*tch a*s inconsiderate toward the fans?

— @newmewo/X

Amid all, fans outside Korea voiced concern over the  growing backlash, pointing out the “unreasonableness” in condemning the members for something as minor as “going to the bathroom”…

…though, one fan @hj_716, responded by posting a picture of a different fansign, same “problem,” to highlight that this has, supposedly, been an ongoing issue for the Korean fandom.

For those who might think we’re all making this up… (I took this photo on a day when I was really uspet about this… Happens at almost every fansign event.)

— @hj_716/X

Other K-Pop fans also reacted to the outburst from THE BOYZ’s fandom, noting how the “walk out” is indeed a sight unseen at different fansign events.

  • “The fact that their fans have kept this under wraps until now…? Real fans. THE BOYZ must be the first in K-Pop history to pull off leaving in the middle of a fansign.”
  • “What?! I have never heard of any idol group leaving their own fansigns before.”
  • “Seriously, though. I’ve never heard of this happening anywhere else.”
  • “An idol group leaving their own fansign in the middle of the event…? This is honestly a first for me.”
  • “I mean, I’ve seen idols quickly excuse themselves to the bathroom and come back, but they’d be super sorry about it. I’ve never seen half the group walk out like this.”
  • “I usually don’t get any idol-related content on social media, but I suddenly started seeing all these posts about THE BOYZ’s bladder issues, so I had to look it up. Pure wow.”
  • “What are they even doing outside?”
  • “THE BOYZ at it again, huh? I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard about this group’s problems.”
  • “Wait, are we sure it wasn’t the members who finished the fansign first? Just going to the bathroom before the photo session? How could idols leave in the middle of their own fansign event?”
  • “At this point, I have to assume that they stepped out because they needed a smoke break.”

Meanwhile, THE BOYZ is yet to address the growing criticism.
