Trot Singer Reveals He Could Have Been A Part Of A Legendary K-Pop Boy Group

Trot singer Son Tae Jin recently shared a surprising story from his past—he once came close to debuting as a member of 2PM.

On the May 16, 2025, episode of MBN’s variety show Jun Hyun Moo Project Season 2, Son Tae Jin appeared as a guest and opened up about his unexpected experience auditioning for JYP Entertainment during his teenage years.

“In the mid-2000s, Korean entertainment companies were just starting to hold global auditions. I was a high school student who loved music, and thanks to a friend’s recommendation, I ended up auditioning for JYP in Singapore.”

Jun Hyun Moo commented that he could have definitely been a part of 2PM, given that he is the same age as Taecyeon. Son Tae Jin and Taecyeon were both born in 1988!

Though Son Tae Jin didn’t debut as an idol, he has successfully carved out his own path. Since winning the first season of Phantom Singer, he’s become known for his vocal versatility and charming presence on variety shows.
