TWICE’s Nayeon Shares What Has Changed Since Contract Renewals

“I thought about what I wanted to do the most…”

TWICE became one of the very few K-Pop groups to have survived the infamous “7-Year Jinx” that has fans of every group nearing their seventh year concerned about the future. The “jinx” is related to K-Pop groups oftentimes deciding to part ways or having to face the possibility of members departing from the group. It’s called a seven-year one because it mostly happens when the group nears its seventh anniversary due to most K-Pop contracts being seven years long in recent years.

JYP Entertainment girl group TWICE successfully survived the jinx last year when reports came out that all nine members had renewed with the company on July 11. The label released an official statement confirming the reports and sharing the happy news with fans.

All members of TWICE have renewed their contracts with us ahead of the exclusive contract expiration date in the fall. TWICE, who have played a major role in establishing the status and prestige of K-Pop Entertainment company JYP and the company, who have been a source of support for TWICE’s growth and development as a representative girl group, agreed to renew contracts with each other based on this mutual trust.

Following the renewal, TWICE immediately embarked on more activities and announced the release of their 11th mini album Between1&2. After successfully wrapping up promotions for the album in September, the group wasted no time in preparing their next comeback. The group released a pre-release English single, “Moonlight Sunrise,” on January 20, which was followed by their 12th Korean mini album Ready To Be.

TWICE also recently kicked off their world tour, and the group is set to hold shows in more cities than ever before. During all of these activities, the members of TWICE found time to participate in solo activities as well. Right before their contract renewals, the group’s main vocalist Nayeon had her official solo debut with a mini album, Pop, and title track of the same name.

In a recent interview with Harper’s BAZAAR Korea, which she graced the cover of with Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon and NewjeansHyein, Nayeon was asked about the process of renewing her contract. The idol revealed precisely what had changed following their big decision.

It feels like the house I live in has become warmer. We’ve become more stable as the members came together more closely, understood each other, and went towards the same goal.

Though Nayeon shared she feels only positive changes since her contract renewal back in July of last year, the idol admits to feeling “confused” at first. The TWICE star explained that she was able to make her decision after she realized that what she wanted to do the most was continue her career as TWICE and Nayeon.

Personally, I was also confused. I thought about what I wanted to do the most, and it was to match what I wanted to do as TWICE and Nayeon. I am very satisfied now.
