Veteran actor Kim Joo Young has passed away.

On October 1, KST, the actor’s family confirmed to Yonhap News that he passed away on September 30. The 73-year-old had suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis in his youth, which left his lungs weak. He later developed pneumonia, ultimately leading to his demise.

Kim graduated from Chungang University with a degree in Theater and Film. He started his acting career in 1973 after being selected by MBC during its 6th open recruitment of actors. He also joined the Tongyang Broadcasting Company through its 15th talent recruitment.

Kim Joo Young gained prominence with his villainous supporting role in the 1980s K-Drama Chief Inspector and was active in major historical dramas on KBS throughout the 1990s. His final television appearance was in 2014, when he portrayed Jo Min Soo in the KBS epic drama Jeong Do Jeon. He reportedly lived as a shaman afterwards.

Kim Joo Young’s funeral will be held on October 2, at 7:30 KST at the funeral hall of Chungang University, following which he will be buried at Incheon Family Park.
