“World Of Street Woman Fighter” Winning Team Invites Scathing Backlash
The final episode of Mnet‘s World Of Street Woman Fighter aired on July 22, KST, with Osaka Ojo Gang taking home the title of the champion.

The AG Squad secured the runners up position, while MOTIV were the second runners up.

As it usually is with competitive shows, the final results created quite the heated debate online with fans of different dance crews arguing if Osaka Ojo Gang’s win was well-deserved. However, on Korean community sites, the crew came under fire because of the past controversy of one of its members.
The backlash stemmed from the past pictures of Kyoka, one of the Osaka Ojo members, where she was seen sporting a rising sun emblem on her shirt. The symbol is widely looked down upon in Korea and other parts of Asia, as it was the emblem of the Imperial Japanese military that brutalized those countries in the past.

Many netizens expressed their disappointment that the crew was able to garner a huge following in Korea despite Kyoka’s controversy, which is tied deeply to the historical scars of their country. Some also felt that the win was not deserved even objectively based on their performances.

- “Whoa. I thought it would obviously be AG Squad. In the end, it’s all about popularity, huh.”
- “That’s so…??”
- “There are so f*cking many weebs here too.”

- “They didn’t even have a single good performance, but they won…This is worse than Bebe.”
- “Sigh… A war crime flag wins? In Korea?”
