When BLACKPINK appeared on JTBC‘s Knowing Bros, Jennie explained that many people don’t know that Jennie is her actual name and that they think it’s her stage name.

Jennie further explained that her mother was a huge fan of Lee Jung Jae, and she loved his role in the K-Drama Sandglass. Lee Jung Jae’s character was named Jae Hui, and her mother decided to name her son Jae Hui if she had a boy.

Of course, Jennie’s mother gave birth to a girl, and she decided to name her Jennie because it sounded like Jae Hui!

Jennie once got the chance to tell Lee Jung Jae that her mother was a huge fan of his and that his Sandglass character had inspired her name. Jennie said he was “surprised and happy” that her mom was his fan!
