BTS Believes Their Success Comes From Sincerity And Not Social Media

Sincerity is key.

In a past Naver interview with BTS, the members revealed their honest thoughts about their music and success.

The success that BTS has earned is now being analyzed by industries all over the world to try and understand how they were able to make it this far. BTS has used their craft in order to express important messages to the youth while showcasing stunning visuals and performances.

One of the questions asked was what they thought the key factor was for their success.

RM comments that they have received this same question many times before. He gives the latest version of this answer as it has become clearer to him now.

Bang PD was the person who first came up with the idea for them to become a group who conveyed messages to the youth. “We started off as a hip-hop group, but Bang PD felt that we should become someone who talks about things that are important to society.”

He felt that being sincere while having talent was the most important factor for success. “Overall, I think the main factors behind our success are ‘sincerity and skill’. Sincerity is something that can be seen by the public.”

He concludes by expressing how important it is to see eye-to-eye with the company. “He gave us the freedom to become players who could take high-risk for high-return. The company and us contribute half and half and I think that is a great model to have a collaborative relationship between the agency and the artist as business partners.”

First I’d like to praise Bang PD’s insight and eye for our group. We started off as a hip-hop group, but Bang PD felt that we should become someone who talks about things that are important to society. Realistically, we were a group that could make this happen as we had rappers who could convey this message and members who with great performance skills. Overall, I think the main factors behind our success are ‘sincerity and skill’. Sincerity is something that can be seen by the public. But most people put the attention towards the fact that we communicated through social media. More importantly, we are singers, so the quality of our music and performances should be great. With this in mind and the messages we talk about, the messages we communicate, and the frequency of our communication combined helped in bringing Bang PD’s plan into action. He gave us the freedom to become players who could take high-risk for high-return. The company and us contribute half and half and I think that is a great model to have a collaborative relationship between the agency and the artist as business partners.

Suga also gave his opinion about the group’s success.

He realized that Bang PD had asked them from the beginning what it was that they wanted to convey to the world. “Sitting together in a small studio, he would ask, “What do you want to talk about” or “Think about the theme of this beat.” We seemed to start off with “Respect people’s tastes” and “Why isn’t there anyone talking about school or society.”

I was also curious about this so I thought a lot about it. It’s hard to express with just one thing, but I think it started from telling a story that needed to be told because no one else did. Being the beginning of the year, I had a lot on my mind and I thought to myself, “How did I work on music before?” and thinking back now, Bang PD has said this since the beginning. Sitting together in a small studio, he would ask, “What do you want to talk about” or “Think about the theme of this beat.” We seemed to start off with “Respect people’s tastes” and “Why isn’t there anyone talking about school or society.” The sad part is that when people analyze us they think that we succeeded only through social media. Not too long ago, celebrity Kim Saeng Min was the host for our fan meeting and he complimented us during a podcast. He said, “They are talented and they try hard so they can’t be beaten.” When I heard that, I felt like he really understood what we were trying to do. I teared up a bit realizing that it took five years for people to realize this.

BTS proves that a true and genuine heart does not go unnoticed and that their efforts and hardships were worth it. BTS continues to strive to bring a positive message to everyone that we as people have the power to change and become the best version of ourselves.
