BTS’s Jin Shaded K-Pop’s Chart Manipulation Scandal During His Awards Speech

“Music should be done in an honest way.”

During his acceptance speech for the “Song of the Year” award at 2019 MAMA, BTS‘s Jin put in his two cents regarding K-Pop’s current controversial situation with sajaegi, also known as chart manipulation.

He first started off thanking ARMYs for making the award possible…

ARMY!!! We won “Song of the Year”, all thanks to all of you. We are truly grateful for you guys, ARMYs.

— Jin

… then went on to acknowledge all his colleagues who put blood, sweat, and tears into their hard work.

We put in a lot of work into our songs. And in our future albums, we’re going to continue bringing the best of the best to you. Likewise, all of the artists — including those present here — are making amazing music these days.

— Jin

He pointed out though, that these songs are all worthy to be heard and rewarded as deserved. Though he worded his statement cautiously, he is believed to have alluded to the recent string of chart manipulation controversies.

I really want us to live in a world where all of those songs are heard and get recognition they deserve. I know there are some negative ways to do this, but music should be done in an honest way. I look forward to living in a world where music is produced in good faith, and heard in good faith.

— Jin
