A Husband Confesses A Months Long Secret After The Wedding, Shocking His Wife And Her Family
Secrets can break up a relationship, be it friendship or romance. They can also be just as expensive as they are heartbreaking, as seen in recent stories of marriages ended by secrets.

However, a recently shared story is the opposite and will likely leave you in tears!
Ben Carpenter, known by his TikTok handle @bdccarpenter, has been a personal trainer in the fitness industry since 2006. His videos giving an educated look at the science behind weight loss and fitness often rack up views as he disproves common misconceptions.
@bdccarpenter Is being fat a choice? Many videos like this circulating social media, with lots of people arguing about obesity. In theory, everyone has the choice to eat less and move more, but it’s not that simple. #obesity #fat #fatloss #weightloss #diet #nutrition #fatlosstips #weightlosstips #exercise #gym #gymtok #fittok #personaltrainer #calorie #caloriedeficit #calories #fyp #fypシ
While he primarily appears in content alone, his wife Sohee, another health expert and Ph.D. candidate, occasionally films informative content with him. The pair originally met in 2019 and ended up eloping together in 2022.
@bdccarpenter “The best thing I ever did was stop referring to foods as good and bad” When I saw this comment, I knew we had to make a video on it. When we first met, I told Sohee that I read her Master’s thesis, which just happened to be on this exact topic. Although it is common in the fitness industry, and it sounds like it makes sense on paper, referring to foods as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ might be doing you a disservice. Why? Well, at an extreme, people often have long lists of ‘bad’ foods that they are not allowed to eat, and this strict avoidance can sometimes backfire. For example, eating a single cookie, then feeling guilty that you have broken your dietary rulebook but then going on to eat far more food than you would normally (something referred to as counterregulatory eating). As per usual, some people misinterpret what we are saying when we talk about this. We are *NOT* saying that some foods are not more nutritious than others. We are *NOT* saying that diet quality is irrelevant for your health (lol, how anyone claims this is what we believe is beyond us). What we *ARE* saying is, psychology is complicated, and strictly prohibiting “bad” foods and the guilt that can be associated with that sometimes comes back to bite you on the arse. So, if you think this applies to you, just be aware of it. In August 2023, the pair held what they called the “wedding celebration we wanted,” surrounded by friends and family.
The couple looked gorgeous together as they celebrated, but something that happened after the ceremony had people calling Ben “husband goals.”
In a clip posted to his TikTok account, Ben shares a secret he kept from his wife and her family for nearly the last year. As he gives his speech during the reception, Ben switches to speaking Korean, revealing he had practiced for all that time secretly to show his appreciation and respect for Sohee’s parents.
His in-laws were just as surprised at the reveal, getting up to hug him as he ended the Korean portion of his speech. It is easy to see how moved Sohee was as she tried to wipe the tears from her face discreetly.
The rest of his speech was just as moving and worth watching the entire clip. Congratulations to the couple on their wedding and Ben for setting the standard!
@bdccarpenter For nearly a year, I have been keeping a big secret from my wife, until our wedding day. I kept sneaking off for 30 minutes at a time for video calls she didn’t know about, or pretending they were for work when they weren’t. In bed I would often put one headphone in so she couldn’t hear what I was doing, and turning my screen away so she couldn’t see either. I set myself a goal of learning just a teeny tiny bit of Korean as a show of respect to her and her family on our wedding day. I wasn’t originally planning on sharing this video from a couple of months ago, because I try to make social media about posting educational content for you all. But, it seems silly not to share one of the most important days of my life. So, here is my full wedding speech, for any of you who are interested. ❤️ #wedding #weddingtiktok #groom #speech #weddingday #bride #korean #korea
