(G)I-DLE’s Yuqi Once Learned A Korean Curse Word From Soyeon, Resulting In A Hilarious Misunderstanding

Her struggles with learning a new language are 100% relatable.

If there’s one thing anyone learning a new language can relate to, it’s the curse words you tend to learn the fastest.

In (G)I-DLE‘s latest appearance on Knowing Bros, Yuqi flexed her linguistic skills, proving that she could even copy Korean dialects well. She knows all the slang Koreans use, and she’s not afraid to show off her knowledge of curse words.

While this might highlight Yuqi’s playful and savage personality, her language education is all thanks to her fellow member and leader, Soyeon.

I learned a lot (of curse words) from Soyeon. Don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about!

— Yuqi

In Soyeon’s defense, she never deliberately taught Yuqi any curse words. Soyeon then shared a story where she playfully swore at Yuqi, only for it to backfire quickly.

I once said to Yuqi, ‘What the hell are you staring at?’ as a joke.

Yuqi then started using the phrase all the time and said it to everyone in the company, not realizing the implications of the words.

While not an outright swear, this phrase definitely could’ve gotten Yuqi into major trouble, especially with her superiors. Imagine telling your boss, “What the hell are you looking at?” when he asks how you’re days going. There’s no way you wouldn’t get in trouble.

As any language learner can relate to, there are times you copy specific phrases, thinking nothing of it, only to later discover you’ve accidentally offended everyone. Or if your friends like to tease you, you’ve probably been taught an insult and told it was a compliment. Yuqi, in her eagerness to learn Korean, accidentally swore at everyone in her company, but thankfully, the situation remains a hilarious story with no significant consequences.
