Ending fairy videos, where the camera focuses on one member for the last moment of a stage, often go viral as fans can’t get over their favorite idol’s visuals.
But while third and fourth-generation idols are very familiar with ending fairy poses…
Second-generation idols have embraced the trend with mixed reactions. Like SHINee Key‘s iconic “heavy breathing.”
Or HIGHLIGHT running off stage for theirs.
Girls’ Generation‘s Sunny once explained that ending fairies were very different in the past. While now it’s normal for idols to stare charismatically at the camera, in the past, an idol’s goal was to “make people wonder if they pressed the pause button.”
Back in my day, we had to act like we weren’t out of breath. We stopped [completely]. The trend was to freeze completely and make people wonder if they pressed the pause button!
Now that Girls’ Generation have made their comeback with FOREVER 1, Sooyoung, in particular, was incredibly excited to try and film an ending fairy.
Ending fairy. I’ll practice being the ending fairy.
Tiffany, amused by Sooyoung’s antics, decided to tease Sooyoung, pretending that the ending fairy trend didn’t exist anymore.
Oh my god. I heard that doesn’t exist anymore, Sooyoung.
Sooyoung was shocked by the news, upset that she wouldn’t get a chance to try one.
Really? Why did it disappear when I could do it?
But despite her disappointment, since it is just teasing, hopefully Sooyoung will get a chance to show fans her version of an ending fairy in the future.
