It has happened before.

Recently, it was announced that ENHYPEN’s Heeseung would no longer be a member of the group.

Belift Lab announced the news, with Heeseung sharing a handwritten letter explaining his departure.

Fans have reacted with shock, with many planning protests and attempting to pressure the company into re-adding him. At the same time, many have questioned whether any idols have been added back to their group line-ups after departing.

There have been some cases of members leaving the groups they debuted in and returning, but fewer in which fan protests played a part, including one in which a boy group member was added back to the line-up.

In 1999, the boy group g.o.d debuted under SidusHQ following a two-year formation process aided by JYP Entertainment and J.Y. Park.

The group, now known as one of K-Pop’s legendary groups, nearly faced disbandment early on. In 2021, member Joon Park and actress Han Go Eun were involved in dating rumors, leading SidusHQ to remove him from the group that September.

The decision appeared to be made on short notice, much like Heeseung’s, as the members were not informed in advance.

Joon held a press conference, where he tearfully expressed his feelings about the agency’s treatment.

g.o.d’s fans immediately began withdrawing from the official fan club, publicly advertising the agency’s treatment of Joon Park, returning merchandise, and threatening to boycott concerts. The other members of g.o.d also held a press conference without informing their company, during which they stated they did not approve of Joon Park’s removal from the group.

By November 2001, Joon was added back to the group, who have remained active both as solo artists and as a reunited group following their hiatus in 2006.
