NewJeans continues to make waves in the K-Pop industry through their catchy songs, ever-evolving style, charming personalities, and innovative marketing. The group debuted in July 2022 and quickly gained a large fanbase, becoming one of the most popular 4th-gen K-Pop girl groups.
After their record-setting surprise debut last summer, the group announced their anticipated first comeback for the winter, releasing their B-side track, “Ditto,” ahead of their title track.
“Ditto” immediately saw success with its catchy melody, Baltimore club dance-inspired beat, and mysterious, star-studded music video.
With “Ditto,” NewJeans achieved their first perfect all-kill, topping all major music charts in South Korea, such as Melon, Genie, Bugs!, Vibe, and FLO, as well as the real-time, daily, and weekly music charts.
“Ditto” also earned the group their first spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, entering at number 96 only six months into their debut.
Billboard praised the group for their rapid success and credited “Ditto’s” growing popularity with its viral use on the popular social app TikTok.
TikTok has been a big factor in the song’s growing popularity, as the track has been used in nearly 300,000 clips on the platform to date.
Recently, NewJeans’ Hanni was a guest on Lee Mujin Service, a variety program hosted by singer-songwriter Lee Mujin.
On the program, Lee Mujin acknowledged the success of NewJeans’ title track, “OMG,” to which Hanni surprisingly shared that the group was initially worried the song wouldn’t be successful.
The reason for their doubt was also unexpected, as Hanni revealed they weren’t sure they could top the success of “Ditto.” They didn’t expect ” Ditto ” to be as successful as it was.
Luckily, “OMG” also topped the charts and became another hit song for the group!
Lee Mujin shared that he realized the scope of NewJean’s success after three other talented artists had covered their songs on his program. Check out which cover Hanni liked the most in the article below!
