Kim Ji Won Bags A Rare “Big 4” Achievement In K-Drama With “Queen Of Tears”
Queen of Tears has recorded soaring ratings and explosive popularity all over the world since its premiere, and it is currently racing with the iconic drama Crash Landing On You to become TVN’s highest-rated weekend show. A lot of the show’s success is owed to the stellar cast, which includes Kim Ji Won in the role of the female protagonist, Hong Hae In.
While Kim has been a widely admired actress for her visuals and skills for years, Queen of Tears has catapulted her to a new level of global fame. With this show, she has also scored a rare achievement in the K-drama industry. Kim Ji Won has now worked with four of the most celebrated screenwriters in the industry, namely Kim Eun Sook, Lim Sang Chun, Park Hae Young, and Park Ji Eun.
In the K-Drama industry, screenwriters are highly revered, to the point where a drama could garner huge attention simply based on the name of the screenwriter. All four of the above receive fees equivalent to A-list actors, which speaks volumes about their legendary status.
The screenplay of Queen of Tears was written by Park Ji Eun, who is also the mastermind behind iconic dramas like My Love from the Stars, The Producers, The Legend of the Blue Sea, and Crash Landing on You.
Kim Ji Won has worked with Kim Eun Sook thrice— The Heirs, Descendants of the Sun, and a cameo role in the critically acclaimed Mr. Sunshine. Some of Kim Eun Sook’s more recent legendary screenplays include Guardian: The Lonely and Great God and The Glory.
Park Hae Young and Kim Ji Won worked together in My Liberation Notes, a project that garnered Kim huge critical acclaim as an actress and even won her a nomination for Best Actress at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards. Park’s other notable works include Another Miss Oh and My Mister.
Finally, Kim’s much-beloved role in Fight for My Way was written by Lim Sang Chun, who also penned the screenplays of When the Camellia Blooms and The Fiery Priest.
As the top screenwriters in the industry at the moment, these four are often considered to be career highlights for any actor’s resume. So, Kim Ji Won starring in works written by all four of them is a legendary feat in itself, which is yet to be achieved by any other actor!
