The members took turns describing how they came to join NewJeans. Minji was scouted due to her incredible popularity even as a student, Hanni joined through a global audition, Hyein was a child model, and Danielle had appeared on the South Korean television show Rainbow Kindergarten when she was little!

The girls also talked about why they wanted to become singers. Haerin said that she wished for her true emotions to be felt through music, while Hanni said her dream started because of her mother, who was a big fan of boy bands.

Growing up in Australia, Hanni’s mother listened to the legendary group Backstreet Boys, who made her daughter want to become a singer!

Yoo Jae Suk quickly recognized the group and said he was also a massive fan of theirs. Everyone then fell in love with Hanni’s strong Australian accent when speaking in English. They even asked Danielle, who also grew up in Australia, to repeat the name “Backstreet Boys” to hear it again.

Watch the full video below. Hanni talks about how the Backstreet Boys inspired her to become a singer at the 0:41 mark.
