Koreans Are Getting Their Aegyo-Sal Tattooed — Netizens Have Split Opinions
You may have heard of semi-permanent makeup like lipstick or eyeliner, but have you heard of semi-permanent aegyo-sal?
Aegyo-sal is known as the puffy under eye area that is often accentuated with makeup to visually enlarge the eye.
Many K-Pop idol makeup artists use a dark eyeshadow to shade underneath the aegyo-sal and then add a bright or shimmery color on top to further make it appear as if it pops out.
However, the latest semi-permanent makeup trend has clients rocking it on a daily basis. In one video, it appears as if a client is getting a bright orange tattoo directly underneath their eye.
As the color settles and the excess is wiped away, clients are left with a stunning highlight on their aegyo-sal.
Depending on your preference and which flatters your skin tone most, there is also an option to do a pink highlight.
This client received a gradation shadow on the outer corner and pink highlight towards the center.
Netizens had mixed reactions to the trend: Some were intrigued and wondered if it looks as good in real life while others were convinced the pain was not worth it.
- “Weird”
- “They say it only lasts for two months, I want to do it more? LOL If it lasted two years, I probably wouldn’t do it”
- “Ugh… It looks like it would hurt…”
- “Just put on makeup…”
- “It looks natural in the photos, but don’t you see the paint when you look at it directly?”
- (Response) “Agreed”
- “It looks really strange”
- Deleted comment
- “It’s okay?? There must be people who want to do it”
- “Huh, it’s pretty? I want to see it in person instead of just photos”
There are various salons in Korea offering the new trend. Check out some of the before and after photos below.
