“The Glory” Actress Confesses She Was Unofficially Banned By JYP Entertainment From Appearing On Variety Shows

A Rising actress’s sudden disappearance from variety shows recently became a hot topic on Korean online communities.

The actress in question is Shin Ye Eun, best known for her portrayal of Yeon Jin in Netflix’s global hit revenge K-Drama The Glory.

Recently, a viral post on a Korean online community brought up Shin’s past appearance on the MBC show Point of Omniscient Interfere, where she admitted that her agency had prohibited her from appearing in variety shows when her career started picking up pace.

During the episode, Shin’s manager revealed that after her performance in The Glory brought her mainstream popularity, her team was worried about her lively off-camera personality clashing with her image.

Comedian Yang Se Hyung noted that Shin had once been very active on variety shows, often making people laugh with her antics until she vanished overnight. He directly asked if she was banned. Shin Ye Eun admitted that her disappearance was indeed intentional, though not really a formal ban.

When Shin debuted, she initially captured massive public attention and appeared in various variety shows. Her goofy antics and unfiltered charm shattered her otherwise composed image. For example, in tvN’s Salty Tour, she famously spat out a mango mid-bite, a sight quite rare for actresses who usually follow a recognizable standard of on-camera decorum.

So, when she started gaining attention as a serious actress, her agency, JYP Entertainment, restricted her variety show appearances to maintain her image.
