While speaking about the distinctive vocal styles at K-Pop’s top entertainment companies, TWICE’s Jihyo asked Kim Sung Eun who she thought had the “perfect vocals” among other artists.

Kim Sung Eun instantly praised soloist IU as being “really great.

She explained that it is difficult to judge the technical skill of singers who specialize in “melodious” songs like ballads on whether or not they can keep rhythm well, but IU excels in any genre she attempts.

She further explained that it’s evident how skilled IU is when others attempt to sing her songs. Kim Sung Eun admitted that when the trainees she works with attempt to cover IU’s songs, it’s often “a mess.”

During the episode, Kim Sung Eun also set the record straight about JYP Entertainment’s signature “half air, half sound” vocal technique.
