TWICE’s Jeongyeon Sheds Tears as She Shares a Devastating Story About Her Grandmother

Jeongyeon was raised by her grandmother until she was in middle school.

TWICE officially released the first episode of their series, TWICE: Seize the Light, which includes behind-the-scenes footage of their tours as well as personal interviews.

In the first episode, the members talked about how they came to dream of becoming idols and the difficult times they endured before their debut.

But the story that gained the most attention was Jeongyeon‘s tearful story about her grandmother.

Jeongyeon first revealed when she first dreamt of becoming an idol.

I was really chubby as a kid, so I went to aerobics class to lose weight. I learned to sing and dance there, and that’s when I wanted to become an idol.

– Jeongyeon

Jeongyeon also shared how close she was with her grandmother all the way until she was in her second year of middle school.

I used to hold talent shows in front of my grandmother. I lived with my grandmother until I was in my second year of middle school. Both of my parents worked, so my grandmother raised me.

– Jeongyeon

But she began to tear up as she explained why she feels so sad thinking about her grandmother.

So my grandmother really looked forward to seeing me debut, but she passed away before I did. I feel really sad because of that.

– Jeongyeon

Jeongyeon made an effort to stop crying and put on a bright smile, but her effort only made fans feel for her even more.
