Here’s The Original Korean Folk Tale Of Uturi, BTS V’s Character For “ARMY Zip”

The tale represents the idea that anyone with great potential can be crushed by those that fear them.

The characters for ARMY Zip has just been released and the 7 boys of BTS dressed up as the following characters.

Jungkook was dressed as Peter Pan, Jimin as Pied Piper, V as Uturi.

Jin was The Little Prince, RM as Daddy Long Legs, Suga as Puss In Boots and J-Hope was dressed as Pinocchio.

Although the photoshoot was heavily stylized, it did not stop the fans from deducing the characters. International fans may have been wondering – who or what is Uturi?

Uturi is originally based on a Korean folk tale of Agijangsu, the Mighty Baby with superpowers who met a tragic death just for being born into a lowly family. Be warned, the tale may be a little dark!

He was born to a poor farming family in the vilage of Yongsan, Miryang, in the South Gyeongsang Province. Uturi was born with wings under his arms and by the time he was a few weeks old, he could fly. His parents tried to kill him for fear that the authorities would come, and hence put him under a boulder and rice stalks on an oil press. Finally after three attempts, the baby died.

Although there are many versions to the tale, with him living until middle age in some, the basis of the story remains – parents or officials who try to kill an extraordinary baby for fear of its power and what it may bring. With the parents or officials signifying the public and Uturi someone with extraordinary power, the tale represents the idea that anyone with great potential can be crushed by those that fear them.
