Shinhwa’s leader Eric speaks against iKON using the same fandom color

Shinhwa‘s leader Eric has voiced out his opinion about rookie group iKON sharing similar fandom colors, inviting both praise and criticisms for his frankness.

Eric tweeted on the official Shinhwa Twitter account on December 18th, “[ERIC] To the juniors: Orange has been Shinhwa Changjo’s color since our debut in 1998. Please avoid using orange if possible. See you next year during our promotions. From Shinhwa’s Eric.

Eric argued that since Shinhwa debuted in 1998 and iKON in 2015, so they should have the exclusive right of using the orange color based on their seniority. While some fans reacted positively and said that Eric made a cool move, not all K-pop fans thought the same.

According to the YG Entertainment‘s official video uploaded onto iKON’s Youtube account, the group’s new lightstick is red when unlit and orange when lit. Two months ago, TVXQ‘s fans were also enraged when iKON’s fandom color was rumored to be red.

[+9035, -901] It’s not like they aren’t active either…YG is making things so hard for iKON.

[+8026, -1166] We never intended to diss iKON in the slightest. When we complained to the company they made some lame excuse saying that it’s the color of persimmon. They even said we were colorblind and now they pretend to be the victims.

[+5099, -451] When BoA first debuted she picked yellow which was Sechs Kies’ color and got chewed out so hard…

[+7440, -1363] Things must have gotten very out of hand if Eric even made a statement.

[+3665, -557] iKON fans we are sorry about the tweets but we have had such controversies numerous times over the many years so we became very emotional. I think we should step back a bit and try to assess the situation a bit better.
