Britney Spears Basically Just Called Selena Gomez A Hypocrite For Her Role In BLACKPINK’s “Ice Cream” Music Video

Selena Gomez and BLACKPINK collaborated on the group’s 2020 track “Ice Cream.”

Collaborations between Western artists and K-Pop idols have become more and more common. One common part of the American music scene is the seemingly random disputes that arise between music artists and it seems like BLACKPINK have been indirectly drawn into one between pop singers Britney Spears and Selena Gomez.

Britney Spears was recently freed from years of a conservatorship where she had very little control over any aspect of her own life. Since gaining independence, she has embraced her sexy side yet again and often shares updates about her life for fans to see.

Recently, Britney shared a post on her Instagram account that seemed to be directed toward singer Selena Gomez, and directly referenced her collaboration with BLACKPINK for “Ice Cream.”

In her post, she seemingly called out Selena Gomez for having hypocritical views that did not match up with her apparent actions.

Don’t you just love the nerve of women who stand firmly getting awards and speak on their beliefs about not showing their bodies on instagram ???!!!!! They say “This is NOT something I would do” yet those women are the very ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos made about sucking and licking on homemade ice cream !!!! These other girls have nothing but beautiful bodies !!!! Who cares if the flaunt it??? THEY SHOULD !!! So the next time I see someone with a big budget video sucking on lollipops yet giving righteous speeches shaming other women for exposing their bodies, I would like to tell those people don’t be a hypocrite as you suck on your lollipop having HUGE budget dreams … why would you stand firmly against girls getting attention JUST LIKE YOU and they have absolutely nothing ????

Fans guessed that Britney was referring to Selena Gomez’s award acceptance speech at the 2016 American Music Awards (also known as the AMAs)  where the singer delivered a message to her fans and critics. During the speech, Selena stated that “I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here [holds chest],” seemingly a statement to women exposing themselves on Instagram for attention or “validation.”

Selena Gomez and BLACKPINK collaborated on the group’s 2020 track “Ice Cream” where all of the girls sang cute yet suggestive lyrics while playing in an ice cream wonderland. In her statement, Britney said that there was nothing wrong with this and that they all should show off if that’s what they choose to do, but that Selena’s appearance in the music video went against what she said in her award speech.

The singer has since edited her post’s caption to just three emojis, seemingly from the backlash she received for her statement. BLACKPINK being involved in beef between Britney Spears and Selena Gomez was definitely not on the 2022 bingo card, but hopefully, this situation will resolve itself!
