Ryu Jiwon Reveals Her Ongoing Battle With Leukemia

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Ryu Jiwonan actress and former member of the girl groups Good Day and IRRIS, recently opened up about her fight with leukemia.

On August 14, KST, Jiwon posted a picture of herself on Instagram showing herself with a shaved head. In the caption, she wrote that it had already been three months since her sudden leukemia diagnosis. The actress also mentioned that she had to be hospitalized immediately after the diagnosis without getting any explanation.

Jiwon shared that she had already finished the first and second rounds of treatment and was undergoing the third one. “I am so grateful that the first and second rounds went so smoothly that I didn’t even think it was serious,” she wrote, reassuring fans of her current condition. However, she admitted that the psychological stress after the diagnosis was severe, but her friends, family, and fans pulled her out of it.

The idol-actress also confessed that she had been hesitant to post a picture of herself, given that she was used to only showing her polished side to the public. However, she mentioned that now she is finding the courage to show her unfiltered self more.

Regarding her current health condition, Jiwon shared that she still had a big hurdle to overcome— the hematopoietic stem cell transplant. “I want to finish it quickly and get better so I can return to my normal life,” she wrote with a determined tone.

Born in 1997, Ryu Jiwon debuted in 2017 as a member of Good Day. After the group quietly disbanded in 2019, she re-debuted as a member of REDSQUARE in 2020. The group was later rebranded as IRRIS. Jiwon has made appearances in numerous K-Dramas since 2021, including I Can See Your MBTI and Ready to Beat. She was also a contestant on the popular TV Show, Re:verse.
