Chilling Videos of Actor Choi Hyun Wook Throwing A Fastball At A Child Emerge—Backlash Grows Even More Intense
Although actor Choi Hyun Wook has offered to apologize for his ceremonial pitch gone wrong, videos from the baseball field showing the fastball and his reaction right after have surfaced—intensifying the backlash even more.
Actor Choi Hyun Wook Almost Injures A Child Fan, Issues Apology
In his apology, Choi Hyun Wook claims that he got “really nervous” and messed up.

I was really nervous during yesterday’s ceremonial pitch, so the ball went astray. I plan to apologize to the batter and their parents either today or tomorrow.
I support Samsung and all the teams. I guess I was just excited to watch a game in person for the first time in a while. If a young player had been standing there, I should have thrown the ball slowly and carefully, but I didn’t think of that because I was so nervous. I’m truly sorry.
It’s fine to criticize me or my fashion, but please don’t direct your criticism toward other teams, the clubs I support, or other people.

However, as videos continue to circulate online, netizens are feeling more and more convinced that he simply did not care about the child being up for batting, all locked in on showing off his pitching skills.

- “Whoa… The catcher springs up to catch it, geez.”
- “Mistakes happen, sure. But if I made a mistake like that, I’d be so shocked I’d run over to check if the kid’s okay.”
- “Just an average Korean guy, honestly.”
- “He doesn’t even go check on the kid at all.”
- “Whoa, just seeing the video now.”
- “If you’re going to throw that hard, at least control it properly. Lining up a kid and acting clueless about the risk—what’s with that attitude?”
- “Shows his personality clearly. I had a bit of a good impression, but I definitely can’t like him anymore. Still shocking that some people like and/or defend him like he’s the victim here.”
- “Lol…”
- “He cared more about showing off his fastball than worrying that his throw could hurt the kid. Even in this brief clip, you can see his lack of consideration for others, especially the vulnerable, and his strong self-centeredness.”
- “WTF? He’s not even going to check on the kid…?”
- “He really didn’t think this through. Should apologize quickly.”
- “He doesn’t even check on the kid—his character is awful.”
One video showing how close the fastball comes flying over the child’s head—but more shockingly, how the actor first seems to be rushing over to check on the child but instead heads over to exchange greetings with the catcher—has set off a flood of scathing criticism toward the actor.

- “If I were the mom, I’d have been so shocked—like what if my kid got hurt?!”
- “He threw the ball and ran, so I thought he was going toward the kid, but that wasn’t it…”
- “His character is awful… His reaction after throwing was terrible, too. It was dangerous.”
- “I read a post saying he apologized on-site but it wasn’t broadcast—was that a lie?”
- “This is entirely Choi Hyun Wook’s problem. Why do people keep nitpicking, saying, ‘It was a ceremonial pitch, but the team lined up a child to bat?’ Like, come on. If you don’t know baseball, just don’t try to defend him.”
- “He said he’d apologize, but he still hasn’t?”
- “Logically, there’s no way you throw that hard with a kid in front of you. Unless you’re a f*cking psychopath. Just looking at that, he doesn’t even seem aware of the kid and only wants to show off his throw.”
- “I can’t understand throwing that hard when a kid’s there, and it was such a cloudy day, yet he didn’t even take off his sunglasses. He didn’t care about the kid at all—only himself. And he didn’t apologize that day either, just posted a ‘will apologize’ notice on Bubble.”
- “I heard he apologized, though. No?”
- “The adult thing to do is consider the child and be careful. That’s normal common sense. People who are going, ‘Why did the team choose a child to bat?’ is insane.”
The child’s mother has also since come forward and also reflected on how dangerous the whole situation was.

I’m the mother of the child who was at bat this game. I let my child on to the field thinking things will be done safely. Now that I look back at it… This gives me the chills.

It is unclear whether the actor has reached out to the child and apologized in person, as he promised he would.
