The idol had been enlisted in the Navy since April 14, 2024, and his return marked the first time a member of NCT had completed their service. His return went viral as he reunited with his parents.

Taeyong has almost immediately jumped into schedules, with an appearance at a New Year’s event in Thailand already announced.

The idol also did a welcome home live stream, where he talked about his upcoming activities, interacted with other members of NCT and spoke about his time while serving.

One part of the live has since gained attention, related to former member Taeil.

In August 2024, it was announced that Taeil would no longer be a member of NCT due a then unspecified sex crime. Earlier this year, he was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated rape.

The sexual assault took place in June 2024, and Taeil still participated in schedules, resulting in him appearing with the current members at events, including the group’s anniversary fan meeting. Taeyong also attended, and took a photo with the members.
